October 4, 2026 — Update to our October 3 story. Honduras will hold down the price of diesel for 30 days from Monday, October 5, after bus and cargo operators stopped work over fuel costs. Buses were reported running normally at Tegucigalpa’s terminals on Sunday, but transport leaders have not formally withdrawn their threat.

What changed

  • The measure: the government will absorb L12.01 per gallon of diesel for 30 days, starting October 5. It said the aim is to shield public and cargo transport.
  • On the ground: La Tribuna reported buses operating normally at the capital’s terminals on October 4, with few passengers.
  • Not reported: we found no report on October 3 or 4 of the stoppage continuing or spreading, and none of operators formally calling it off. Their response to the price freeze is TBA.
  • Background: the October 2 stoppage hit routes in Cortés, including the approach to San Pedro Sula, and in Lempira, Comayagua and Santa Bárbara.
  • Holiday week: about 500,000 travelers are expected for the Semana Morazánica break, with traffic building from Wednesday afternoon.

What it means for airline travelers

  • San Pedro Sula airport: intercity buses should be running, but confirm with your bus company the day before.
  • Holiday crowds: expect full buses and busy roads from Wednesday. Standby seats on domestic and regional flights will also be tight.
  • Keep a buffer: the dispute is paused, not settled. Leave extra time for airport transfers.
