October 6, 2026 — Royal Caribbean has added two sailings ahead of Hero of the Seas’ planned inaugural, moving the Icon-class ship’s first cruise from Miami up 10 days to August 1, 2027.

Royal Caribbean International, part of Royal Caribbean Group, is keeping the original August 11, 2027 inaugural cruise as scheduled. Nobody booked on it has to move, but guests may switch to one of the earlier sailings.

Hero of the Seas opening sailings from Miami

Departure Length Itinerary Status
August 1, 2027 7 nights Perfect Day at CocoCay and Western Caribbean New
August 8, 2027 3 nights Perfect Day at CocoCay getaway New
August 11, 2027 3 nights Original inaugural sailing Unchanged
  • Bookings open: the afternoon of Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
  • Switching: change fees are waived through October 14, 2026, at prevailing rates and subject to availability.
  • Suites: all suites on the new sailings are held for already-booked guests until October 14.
  • Fares and the Western Caribbean ports: TBA.

Also from the President’s Cruise Q&A

President and CEO Michael Bayley and loyalty executive Nancy Ramos took questions aboard Icon of the Seas. Three answers matter to people with bookings.

  • Labadee, Haiti: no return date. Calls have been suspended since April 2025 and are cancelled through June 2027.
  • Royal Beach Club Cozumel: Bayley did not confirm the planned December 2026 opening, citing ongoing talks with Mexican officials. Tickets are not on sale. Opening date: TBA.
  • Loyalty: Crown & Anchor benefits will not be merged with Celebrity Cruises’ program. Status matching across Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Silversea continues.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Miami flights: Miami (MIA) is closest to PortMiami and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) is the usual backup. Early August is peak summer and hurricane season, so standby travelers should arrive at least a day ahead.
  • Act by October 14 if you hold the August 11 sailing and want to be on the first cruise. After that date the fee waiver and the suite hold end.
  • Back-to-back option: the August 8 and August 11 three-night cruises run consecutively from the same port, which means one round trip to Miami covers both.
  • Do not plan around the Cozumel beach club for December 2026 cruises until Royal Caribbean opens ticket sales.
  • Interline rates: the announcement mentions no travel-industry pricing. The new sailings are sold at prevailing rates.
