CHARLOTTE, N.C., October 8, 2026 — Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) has unveiled “CLT Beyond,” a package of nearly a dozen projects that includes new Concourse C gates and a passenger tunnel from the main terminal. The plan is tied to the airport’s new lease agreement with its airlines and goes before Charlotte City Council on Monday, October 12.
What is planned
- New gates on Concourse C. Number of gates: TBA.
- A passenger tunnel linking the main terminal to the expanded Concourse C.
- A renovated international arrivals area.
- Planning and design for a future atrium expansion and more international gates.
- Airfield work to prepare for the Fourth Parallel Runway.
- Infrastructure upgrades, including electrical systems.
The airport declined to give a cost estimate, Axios Charlotte reports. The projects are part of the Airline Use and Lease Agreement with American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest and United.
Key dates
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| Monday, October 12, 2026, 5 p.m. | Public presentation to Charlotte City Council |
| Council vote | At a later meeting; date TBA |
| Concourse C construction start and finish | TBA |
| End of 2026 | Concourse D renovation due to finish |
| March 2027 | Concourse E renovation due to finish |

What it means for non-revs
- Nothing changes at the gate today. This is a proposal. Council has not voted and no construction dates are set.
- Charlotte stays a building site. Concourse D and E renovations run into late 2026 and early 2027, and Concourse C work would follow. Allow extra walking time on tight connections and watch for gate changes.
- More gates and a fourth runway mean more seats later. Extra gates, and runway capacity from fall 2027, give the airlines here room to add flights. That helps standby odds over the long term.
- International arrivals should improve. A renovated arrivals area is part of the package. Timing: TBA.
