October 9, 2026 — Boca de Agua, the treehouse hotel on Mexico’s Bacalar lagoon, is becoming La Valise Bacalar. Namron Hospitality will open it under its La Valise brand on December 15, 2026.
The property has 22 treehouse suites and villas, raised on stilts in 36 hectares of protected jungle. More than 90% of the land is left natural. Mexican architect Frida Escobedo designed the original hotel, which holds a MICHELIN Key.
Namron describes the changes as light: updates to the wellness areas, the rooftop, the cenote-style pool and the lagoon deck. Breaking Travel News reports rates from $320 a night. The sources do not say whether the hotel is closed during the changeover.

What is on site
- A restaurant built around local ingredients.
- Kayaking, paddleboarding and swimming in the lagoon.
- Jungle walks, birdwatching, stargazing and trips to Maya sites.
- Yoga and wellness sessions.
- It is not an all-inclusive resort.
What it means for airline travelers
- Bacalar is a long way from Cancún. One travel guide puts Chetumal (CTM) under 45 minutes away, Tulum (TQO) about 2.5 to 3 hours and Cancún (CUN) about 4 to 4.5 hours. The hotel’s own site lists no airports, so treat these as estimates.
- Chetumal usually means a connection. The same guide describes it as a small airport reached through larger Mexican hubs.
- Holding a Boca de Agua booking? Contact the hotel to confirm how your stay is affected by the changeover.
- Only 22 keys. Holiday dates after the December 15 opening will be limited.
- Industry rates: none of the sources mention airline-employee or travel-industry pricing.
