October 10, 2026 — Florence’s tram network is on a 24-hour strike on Saturday, and Italy’s transport ministry calendar now shows hours for a run of strikes over the next three weeks, including a Tuscany-wide general strike on Wednesday, October 14, airport strikes at Pisa and Florence on Friday, October 16, and a national general strike with a 24-hour rail stoppage on October 29–30.
This updates our October 9 story. Most of these dates were already on the calendar; the hours for the Rome and Bari strikes are new.

- Flights on October 16. Italy’s civil aviation authority protects flights scheduled between 7:00 and 10:00 am and between 6:00 and 9:00 pm during air transport strikes.
- Regional trains. Trenitalia’s regional services normally guarantee essential trains from 6:00 to 9:00 am and 6:00 to 9:00 pm on weekdays.
- Not on the calendar for the next three weeks: air traffic control, Rome’s ATAC, Milan’s ATM, Venice’s ACTV, Italo, Trenord, ferries or taxis.
- Venice airport. A security staff strike reported earlier for October 16 at Venice Marco Polo is not on the ministry list we opened on Saturday. Whether it was withdrawn is not confirmed.
- The national rail strike of November 20–21 and the Rome airports handling strike of December 14, reported earlier, were outside the window we rechecked.
What it means for airline travelers
- Florence on Saturday: if you planned to take the tram to or from the airport, use a taxi or bus instead.
- Wednesday, October 14, in Tuscany: regional trains between Florence, Pisa and Siena stop from mid-morning to late afternoon. Travel before 9 am or after 5 pm.
- Friday, October 16, at Pisa or Florence: expect cancellations outside the protected morning and evening bands. If you are flying standby, aim for a flight inside those bands or use Bologna or Rome instead.
- October 29–30: avoid planning a train to the airport from Thursday evening through Friday evening. Check Trenitalia’s and Italo’s strike pages for guaranteed trains and refund terms.
- Strikes in Italy are often shortened or revoked at short notice. Recheck the ministry calendar the day before.
