October 12, 2026 — Philippine Airlines (PR) has suspended its Manila–Riyadh flights, PR654 and PR655, until November 29, 2026. It is the longest Saudi suspension any airline has announced since the attacks on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport.
What happened
PAL announced the extension in a Facebook travel advisory on October 12, citing the changing security situation at the Riyadh airport. The airline says it is still monitoring events and “further updates will be provided as necessary.” The advisory does not say what rebooking or refund options are available, so affected passengers should contact PAL directly. Rebooking terms: TBA.
The Philippines’ Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) says four Filipinos were injured in the attacks on the airport. Three are in intensive care and the fourth was expected to be discharged. The DMW is telling Filipino workers in Saudi Arabia to stay away from likely targets and crowded areas at airports, and to check with their airline before going to the airport.
The route matters: Saudi Arabia was the top destination for Filipino overseas workers between April and September 2025, with 24.1% of deployments, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
What it means for non-revs
- There is no PAL nonstop between Manila and Riyadh for about seven weeks. PAL employees and ZED or interline travelers should not plan around PR654 and PR655 before November 29.
- Alternatives will be crowded. Workers who still have to travel will look to one-stop routings through Gulf hubs, but those airlines are cancelling Saudi flights too. Expect very few open seats on whatever is still flying.
- Watch for a restart rush. When the route returns, weeks of displaced passengers are likely to fill the first flights. Give it some time before you list.
