October 21, 2026 — Accor has outlined a 23-project hotel pipeline for the Dominican Republic totaling nearly 6,000 rooms and more than 1,000 branded residences, spanning beach resorts, city hotels and airport properties.
What is happening
The plan was announced October 20 at a signing in Paris attended by Dominican tourism officials. Accor stresses the list mixes signed agreements with memoranda of understanding (MOUs), so not every project is guaranteed. Owners keep their properties and use Accor’s brands and distribution. Opening dates are TBA for most projects; the ones given are below.
Highlights by area
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Miches (east coast) | A 250-room Swissôtel wellness resort; Grand Mercure and Novotel resort hotels totaling 1,000 rooms; an ibis; a proposed 250-room Fairmont with 100 residences (MOU). A separate Handwritten Collection lagoon resort of 350 rooms is planned for 2030. |
| Cabo Engaño (MOU) | A 1,000-room Mövenpick, a 150-room TRIBE, and a 150-room Swissôtel with residences |
| Punta Cana | Novotel Punta Cana (102 rooms, 2027); Novotel Punta Cana Downtown (137 rooms); ibis Styles Punta Cana (90 rooms, targeted 2030); ibis Punta Cana Airport (100 rooms) |
| Juan Dolio | Pullman Juan Dolio, 400 rooms with a 4,000-seat convention center near Las Américas International Airport |
| Santo Domingo | Swissôtel of about 75 rooms with 180 residences; an ibis budget at Santo Domingo Airport (reported as 170–180 rooms, about 2028) |
| Cabrera | 95-room Handwritten Collection boutique hotel, expected 2028 |
| Nationwide | Agreements for 550 ibis and 700 ibis budget rooms in Santo Domingo, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Las Terrenas and Higüey |
What it means for airline travelers
- Airport hotels are part of the plan: an ibis at Punta Cana Airport and an ibis budget at Santo Domingo Airport would add overnight options next to the country’s two main gateways (PUJ and SDQ), useful when a late arrival or a missed connection leaves you stuck for the night. Opening dates for the PUJ airport hotel are TBA.
- The Pullman Juan Dolio is described as near Las Américas International Airport (SDQ).
- This is a long-range pipeline. Nothing is bookable yet, and MOU projects may change or not go ahead.
- Accor’s announcement does not mention travel-industry or airline-employee rates.
