October 26, 2026 — Qatar Airways expects to take its first Airbus A321LR in December, fitted with 16 lie-flat business-class suites with privacy doors, and is aiming to put it into service from Doha on January 1, 2027.

What happened

According to Aviation A2Z, the aircraft is part of an order for 50 A321-family jets: 10 long-range A321LRs and 40 A321neos.

Item Detail
First delivery Expected December 2026
Target first flights January 1, 2027, from Doha (airline target, not a published schedule)
On order 10 A321LR and 40 A321neo
Business class 16 suites, 1-1, reverse herringbone, lie-flat, direct aisle access and privacy doors (STELIA Aerospace OPERA seat)
Range About 4,000 nautical miles
Routes TBA

The suite will carry Qatar’s own finishes but will not be branded Qsuite. Chief executive Hamad Ali Al-Khater has talked about using the jet on flights of up to eight hours, including to key European cities. Munich has been mentioned as a possibility, but no route has been confirmed.

What it means for non-revs

  • Fewer premium seats per flight. Where the A321LR replaces a widebody on a route, the business cabin shrinks to 16 seats. On those flights, expect fewer premium seats to go spare for staff or ZED travellers.
  • Smaller aircraft, fewer seats overall. A narrowbody also carries fewer passengers than a widebody, which usually means tighter standby chances on routes that switch. Watch for the first route announcements (TBA) before planning around it.
  • A better ride if you get on. If you do clear into business, a narrowbody suite with a door is a big step up from the recliner seats many airlines use on single-aisle jets.
