October 27, 2026 — Update: Carnival Cruise Line has set out the farewell voyages for Carnival Adventure and Carnival Luminosa, the two ships leaving its Australian fleet in March 2028. The routes take them from Sydney to Japan, Seattle and Los Angeles, and are due to go on sale later this week.
The farewell voyages
| Ship | Departs | Voyage | Highlights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carnival Luminosa | March 15, 2028 | 23 days, Sydney to Los Angeles | Hawaii and French Polynesia |
| Carnival Adventure | March 20, 2028 | 19 days, Sydney to Tokyo | Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong, Taipei (Keelung), Japan |
| Carnival Adventure | April 8, 2028 | 8 days, Tokyo round trip | Busan, South Korea; Mount Fuji |
| Carnival Adventure | April 16, 2028 | 15 days, Tokyo to Seattle | Transpacific crossing |
Booking opening date: TBA (“later this week,” per Cruise Critic).
With the two ships gone, Carnival’s Australian fleet is cut in half. Carnival Splendor and Carnival Encounter stay in Australia year-round. Cruise Critic estimates the move removes capacity for about 200,000 passengers a year, which could push up prices and make popular sailings sell out faster.
What it means for airline travelers
- These are one-way voyages, so you need two separate flights: into Sydney (SYD) and home from Tokyo, Seattle (SEA) or Los Angeles (LAX). Price and check both legs before booking the cruise.
- For a one-way repositioning cruise, fly into Sydney at least a day early. Transpacific flights into Sydney are long-haul with limited daily frequencies, so if you are flying standby, plan two days of cushion and check loads well ahead.
- For the April 8 Tokyo round trip, confirm which Tokyo-area cruise terminal is used before choosing between Tokyo’s airports; the source did not name it.
- Australians who prefer Carnival from Sydney should book 2028 sailings on Splendor or Encounter early, as fewer ships means less choice.
- No travel-industry or interline rate information was mentioned.
