November 7, 2026 — France is holding its fourth Saturday in a row of protests over the cost of living. Police have closed 14 Paris Metro stations, and the U.S. Embassy in Paris warned that marches could disrupt the Metro, roads and SNCF regional trains.
What is happening
- Who and why: Unions and student groups have called about 100 demonstrations nationwide over the cost of living, wages, public services and education funding, Euronews reports. A separate “gilets jaunes” (yellow vest) rally is also planned in central Paris.
- Paris union march: Saturday, November 7, starting at 2 p.m. from Place de la République to Place de la Nation along Boulevard Voltaire. The embassy gives the time window as 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Banned rally: the yellow vest gathering at Place de la Concorde at 2 p.m. has been banned. Sortiraparis says joining a banned protest can bring a €135 fine.
- Policing: 70,000 police and gendarmes are deployed nationwide, with checks on roads and at stations, according to Euronews.
- Violence: Euronews says recent protests have been mostly calm, with violence on the fringes. The embassy notes that some recent demonstrations turned violent, with property damage and looting, and police used crowd-control weapons.
- Curfews: none announced. The embassy says local curfews can be imposed at short notice.
- Next date: a “social conference” between Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, unions and employers is expected on Monday, November 9. Further protest dates are TBA.

Government advisories
The U.S. advisory for France stays at Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution. Canada updated its France advisory on November 6 and keeps it at “exercise a high degree of caution”; we could not confirm what wording changed.
What it means for airline travelers
- Getting from the airports: RER B is the main rail link from Charles de Gaulle. This weekend’s works affect the line’s Mitry-Claye branch, so check RER B status on the RATP or SNCF apps before you land, and allow extra time for a taxi or the airport bus.
- Avoid the march route (République–Voltaire–Nation) and Place de la Concorde on Saturday afternoon. Plan around the closed Metro stations listed above.
- Check RATP and SNCF before you set out. The embassy warns that Metro stations can close suddenly and that SNCF regional trains may be disrupted.
- Flying out Saturday evening or Sunday? Leave early for the airport. Delays getting there can cost you a standby seat.
- Register with STEP (U.S.) or Registration of Canadians Abroad. The U.S. Embassy in Paris can be reached at +33 (1) 43 12 22 22.
