October 1, 2026 — Hurricane Rachel has wiped out most of the Mexican ports on Carnival Panorama’s current cruise from Long Beach. Elsewhere in the fleet, Carnival Miracle is skipping Cabo San Lucas on its way to a new winter homeport in Galveston, and the new Carnival Festivale has floated out at the shipyard ahead of its May 2027 debut from Port Canaveral.
Carnival Panorama: Mexican Riviera cruise becomes Ensenada and sea days
Carnival Panorama’s September 26, 2026 sailing from Long Beach, California had already lost two ports to Hurricane Polo. Hurricane Rachel has now taken the rest. According to Cruise Hive’s October 1 update, the cancelled calls are:
- Puerto Vallarta (Sept 29)
- Mazatlán (Sept 30)
- La Paz (Oct 1)
- Cabo San Lucas (Oct 2)
The revised plan is a call in Ensenada on October 1, two sea days on October 2–3, and arrival back in Long Beach on October 4 as scheduled. Carnival is giving each stateroom a $300 onboard credit and has added extra activities on board. Shore excursions booked through Carnival for cancelled ports are refunded to guests’ onboard accounts.
Carnival Miracle: Cabo dropped on the way to Galveston
Carnival Miracle (2,100 guests) left Seattle on September 26 on a 16-night Panama Canal repositioning cruise. The October 1 call at Cabo San Lucas has been cancelled because of Rachel. The rest of the route takes in Puntarenas, Costa Rica and Cartagena, Colombia before the ship arrives in Galveston, Texas around October 12.
From Galveston, Miracle will run alternating 4- and 10-night Western Caribbean cruises to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Roatán and Puerto Limón this winter, plus some 10-night Eastern Caribbean/Bahamas trips and 5-night holiday sailings. In 2027 the ship moves to the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, and Carnival Legend takes over its Alaska program.
Carnival Festivale floats out
Carnival Festivale has floated out at Meyer Werft in Germany. The fourth Excel-class ship measures 182,015 gross tons and carries 5,356 guests at double occupancy. Interior outfitting continues, and delivery is due in spring 2027 (exact date TBA).
- Maiden voyage: May 2, 2027, a 15-day transatlantic from Southampton via La Coruña, Vigo, Funchal (Madeira), Tenerife and Grand Turk
- Arrival in Port Canaveral: May 16, 2027
- Year-round deployment: 6- and 8-day Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral
- New features: Sunsation Point, a three-deck outdoor family zone, and WaterWorks Ultra, which Carnival calls the largest water park at sea, with six slides
Celebration Key and the bigger picture
Carnival Corporation says Celebration Key, its private destination on Grand Bahama, expects about 3.5 million guests in 2027, up from 2.7 million in 2026. The number of ships calling rises from 26 to 31, and a second pier is now operating. CEO Josh Weinstein said 35% of Carnival Cruise Line’s Caribbean capacity will call at both Celebration Key and RelaxAway on the same cruise. The figures came out alongside third-quarter results (reported September 29): record net income of $1.9 billion, and the company says it is already about half booked for 2027.
What it means for airline travelers
- Panorama guests: Your October 4 return to Long Beach is unchanged, so return flights from LGB, LAX or SNA don’t need rebooking. Allow extra time on disembarkation day in case swells slow the approach.
- Booked on a Galveston cruise this winter? The airports for Galveston are Houston Hobby (HOU) and Houston Intercontinental (IAH). Neither is in Galveston itself, so allow time for the drive to the pier. Nonrev travelers should fly in the day before and have a backup on the other airport.
- Festivale maiden voyage: This is a one-way sailing from Southampton to Port Canaveral, so you’ll need an open-jaw trip: into London (Heathrow or Southampton Airport), home from Orlando (MCO). Plan standby options in both directions.
- Port Canaveral cruises from 2027: Orlando International (MCO) is the main gateway, with Orlando Melbourne (MLB) as an alternative.
- Interline and industry fares: No change to travel-industry rates or eligibility has been announced.
