October 4, 2026 — Update to our October 3 story. Belgium now has two disruption days next week. A national union demonstration will disrupt Brussels metro, trams and buses on Friday, October 9, and the rail strike runs from 10 pm Sunday, October 11, to 10 pm Monday, October 12.

The dates

When Who What to expect

We found no published impact on Brussels Airport or Charleroi for either day. That remains TBA.

SNCB ticket rules

  • Normal refund and exchange conditions apply.
  • If the journey planner offers an alternative route, you may use it on the same ticket.
  • A strike certificate can be downloaded for up to seven days afterwards.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Brussels Airport by train on October 12: check the SNCB planner on Sunday, October 11. If no airport train is shown, book a taxi or airport bus in advance.
  • Late Sunday arrivals: the strike starts at 10 pm on October 11, so the last trains that night may not run.
  • October 9 in Brussels: expect closed metro stations along the march route. Walk or allow extra time to reach Brussels-Midi or the airport.
  • Eurostar connections: if you are connecting to an international train at Brussels-Midi on October 12, plan how you will reach the station without local trains.
