October 8, 2026 — Scenic Group, the parent of Scenic, Emerald Cruises & Tours and Mayflower, has appointed cruise veteran Adam Armstrong as chief commercial officer, effective November 1, 2026.
Armstrong will lead the group’s commercial organization in all markets and will be based in Zug, Switzerland, according to reports on October 7 from Cruise Industry News, Seatrade Cruise News and Travel Market Report. The reports do not say whom he replaces or to whom he reports.
Background
| Period | Role |
|---|---|
| Most recently | Global chief executive, Contiki Holidays |
| From 2018 | Managing director for Australia and New Zealand, Silversea |
| From 2009 | Vice president and managing director for Australia and New Zealand, Royal Caribbean, covering Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara |
| From 2004 | Carnival Australia |
| From 2001 | P&O Princess |
Armstrong said he was pleased “to be returning to the cruise industry.” His appointment follows two other recent senior hires at the group: Sture Myrmell as chief operating officer and Riko van Santen as chief information officer.
The announcement included no changes to itineraries, pricing or policies.
What it means for airline travelers
- Nothing changes for booked guests. This is a leadership appointment. Sailings, fares and terms stay as they are.
- Watch the trade programs. A chief commercial officer oversees sales and distribution, and that is where travel-agent and travel-industry rates are set. Any change to how Scenic or Emerald offers reduced-rate space would come from this office, though nothing has been announced.
- Three senior hires in a short period show the group is rebuilding its top team. Expect more announcements once Armstrong starts on November 1.
