October 10, 2026 — Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas skipped today’s call at Naples after spending about 14 hours searching the Ionian Sea for a passenger who went overboard on Friday. Separately, Navigator of the Seas has left Los Angeles for Asia, ending five years of year-round cruises from the port.

Odyssey of the Seas: search, reported rescue and a missed port

The ship was on a seven-night Greek Isles cruise that left Civitavecchia (Rome) on October 4, with calls at Santorini, Kusadasi, Mykonos and Naples. A woman was reported overboard at about 6 a.m. on Friday, October 9, roughly 72 nautical miles southwest of Zakynthos, while the ship was sailing from Mykonos toward Naples.

  • The ship turned back and circled the area for hours. The Hellenic Coast Guard, a helicopter and nearby vessels joined the search.
  • Royal Caribbean said it “immediately launched a search and rescue effort” and that its Care Team is supporting the guest’s family.
  • Cruise Mummy reported today that the woman was found alive by a cargo vessel early on October 10 and taken to hospital, citing passengers and Greek media. Passengers said the captain announced the news at about 10 a.m. Neither Royal Caribbean nor Greek authorities had confirmed the details.
  • The ship left the search area late Friday and headed straight for Civitavecchia. The Naples call on October 10 was cancelled.

Compensation for the missed port: TBA. Royal Caribbean Blog notes this is one of the ship’s last three European round trips before it moves to Cape Liberty, New Jersey.

Navigator of the Seas leaves the West Coast

Navigator of the Seas began sailing year-round from Los Angeles in November 2021. Cruise Industry News reports the 3,348-passenger ship has now started its move to Asia.

  • Transpacific: a 15-night cruise to Tokyo that also calls at Hakodate, Muroran and Shimizu. Exact dates: TBA.
  • Onward to Singapore: an 11-night cruise through Japan, South Korea, China and Vietnam, including Nagasaki and a 17-hour stop in Hong Kong. Exact dates: TBA.
  • Winter season: from late October, two- to ten-night cruises from Singapore’s Marina Bay Cruise Center to Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, plus some one-way sailings to Japan.
  • Summer 2027: the ship stays in Asia, sailing from Yokohama and Singapore through October 2027 instead of returning to Los Angeles.
  • After that: a return to California for a winter of Mexican Riviera and Baja cruises. Start date: TBA.

The report does not name a ship to replace Navigator in Los Angeles for now.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Odyssey guests: the cruise still ends in Civitavecchia on October 11, so flights home from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) should not need to change. Confirm the arrival time with the ship before you list.
  • Booked a private tour in Naples? Contact the operator about a refund. Excursions bought through the ship for a cancelled port are normally credited back to your onboard account.
  • Missed ports for emergencies or weather do not carry a set refund. Watch your onboard account and email for any goodwill credit.
  • Los Angeles cruisers: Royal Caribbean’s short Mexico sailings on Navigator are gone until the ship returns. If you non-rev into LAX for last-minute cruises, check which ships and lines now sail from Los Angeles and Long Beach before you plan.
  • Asia option: Navigator’s short Singapore cruises pair with flights into Singapore Changi (SIN). Long-haul standby loads are hard to predict, so arrive at least a day early.
  • No interline or travel-industry rate changes were announced with either item.
