LAS VEGAS, October 11, 2026 — Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is telling travellers to expect weather delays on Sunday, October 11, and Monday, October 12, as the remains of Tropical Storm Rachel cross Southern Nevada.
What is happening
- Airport warning: in a social media post on Saturday, the airport said people flying to or from Las Vegas on Sunday and Monday should be ready for possible delays, KSNV and KTNV report. It asked passengers to check with their airline.
- Weather alerts: the National Weather Service has a flood watch and a wind advisory in place for Southern Nevada from Saturday through Monday, KSNV reports.
- The storm: at 2 a.m. PDT Sunday the National Hurricane Center (NHC) placed Post-Tropical Cyclone Rachel about 60 miles east-northeast of San Diego, moving north at 25 mph with 50 mph winds.
- Forecast: the NHC expects Rachel to dissipate by Sunday afternoon. It forecasts 1 to 3 inches of rain, locally 5 inches, from Southern California into the Great Basin, with gusty winds over higher ground.
- Delays so far: none had been reported in the coverage we opened on Sunday morning. FAA ground stops or delay programs for LAS: TBA.
- Waivers: Alaska’s and American’s alert pages listed no Las Vegas waiver when we checked on Sunday.
What it means for non-revs
- Sunday is already a tough standby day at LAS. Weekend visitors head home on Sunday afternoon and evening. Weather delays on top of that raise the odds of misconnects and rolled-over standby lists.
- List for the earliest flight you can. If thunderstorms or wind trigger a ground stop later in the day, delays will stack up into the evening.
- Leave room on connections. Phoenix also has storms in the forecast on Sunday, and Southern California is getting rain from the same system. Avoid tight connections through the Southwest.
- Have a Monday backup. The airport’s warning covers Monday as well.
- Allow extra drive time. A flood watch covers the valley, so roads to the airport and employee lots may be slow.
