BURBANK, Calif., October 13, 2026 — Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) moves into its new passenger terminal today, Tuesday, October 13. The entrance, parking, security checkpoint and baggage claim are all in new places, so anyone flying in or out of Burbank this week should plan for an unfamiliar airport.
What is changing
- Opening date: the new terminal opens to travelers on Tuesday, October 13, LAist reports. Passenger service at the old terminal was scheduled to end on Monday, October 12, according to Pasadena Now. Exact first-flight time: TBA.
- New entrance: the main entrance has moved from Thornton Avenue to Winona Avenue and Hollywood Way, on the other side of the airfield from the old buildings.
- Inside: ticketing is on the right, the security checkpoint straight ahead and baggage claim on the left, according to Pasadena Now. There is one central eight-lane TSA checkpoint, 43 common-use ticket counters and an indoor baggage hall with three carousels, Deep Arrival reports.
- Same 14 gates: the terminal is about 53% larger but keeps 14 gates. Passengers still board outdoors from the ramp; there are no jet bridges.
- Old terminal: no longer used by passengers and due to be demolished eventually.
Getting there and parking
- New garage: a seven-level structure with about 2,000 spaces, including 400 valet spaces, opens across from the terminal. It is open 24 hours with a 30-day maximum stay. Self-park is ticketless: leave with the same credit card you used to enter. Hourly and daily rates: not published in our sources.
- Rental cars: still at the Regional Intermodal Transportation Center, with a shuttle to the terminal.
- Rideshare: a new pickup lot is near the terminal; drivers may not wait at the curb.
- Metrolink: the Burbank Airport–North station links to the terminal by a footpath and an on-demand shuttle.
- Parking questions: askparking@bur.org or 818-840-8838.
First-week cautions
- Some shops and restaurants were still being finished at the preview, so not everything may be open on the first mornings.
- Deep Arrival advises allowing extra time in the first week for checkpoint and baggage-hall lines.
- Boarding is still outdoors, so bring a jacket or umbrella if rain is forecast.
What it means for non-revs
- Give yourself extra time this week. New roads, a new checkpoint and staff learning new processes all add minutes. Do not cut a standby check-in close.
- Commuters and crew who park at BUR: the old Thornton Avenue approach no longer leads to the passenger terminal. Check with your airline or the airport for any employee parking or access changes before your next trip; our sources did not cover them.
- Standby odds are unchanged by the move itself. Gate count and airline schedules stay the same, so loads should look the same as before.
- Pack a snack. With some concessions possibly not open yet, do not rely on buying food before an early departure.
