October 20, 2026 — Meliá Hotels International threw an official grand-opening party at Paradisus Cancún on October 18, six months after the all-inclusive reopened following a top-to-bottom renovation, and used the event to roll out a new set of wellness programs.

What is happening

Paradisus Cancún, the pyramid-shaped beachfront resort Meliá first opened more than 35 years ago, reopened in April 2026 after a renovation TravelPulse put at $50 million. The October 18 celebration was the formal grand opening: a Mayan-inspired welcome ceremony, tours of the new rooms and suites, and a fireworks and drone show that closed with the message “The Icon Is Back.”

Item Detail
Property Paradisus Cancún
Brand / owner-operator Paradisus by Meliá / Meliá Hotels International
Location Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico (beachfront)
Reopened April 2026 (exact day not published)
Grand-opening event October 18, 2026
Rooms 657 according to Meliá’s October release; TravelPulse reported 773 suites at the April reopening
Format All-inclusive, with an adults-only tier and a family tier

What is new at the resort

  • The Reserve — an adults-only (18+) area with its own lounges, reserved pool and beach space, and extra services.
  • Family Concierge — a family tier with a dedicated lounge and concierge.
  • Kids and teens — Aquazone’s Splash Island water play area, a redesigned Kidsdom kids’ club and a new Play District sports bar.
  • Dining — TravelPulse reported nine new restaurant concepts and seven bars when the resort reopened.
  • Wellness — a new Longevity Suite (recovery loungers, compression and light therapies), a facial menu from Comfort Zone, red-light yoga and face-mask workshops, a 24-hour fitness center, a Pilates studio, ice baths, sound healing and breathwork.
  • Culture — workshops in Huichol beadwork, alebrijes and mural painting, plus Mexican wine and tequila tastings and Día de Muertos storytelling.

What it means for airline travelers

  • No renovation disruption expected: the work is finished and the resort has been operating since April, so this is a good time to book a fully refreshed property.
  • Getting there: Cancún International Airport (CUN) serves the resort. The sources did not give the transfer distance, so check it when you book.
  • Pick your tier: couples will want The Reserve; families get the most from the Family Concierge tier and the new water play area.
  • Room count: the published figures differ (657 vs. 773), so confirm the exact room category when you book.
  • Rates: neither source mentioned travel-industry or airline-employee rates. Ask Meliá directly.
