October 22, 2026 — Riviera Travel River Cruises has introduced the Riviera Vacation Guarantee, setting out what travelers can expect when a river cruise itinerary changes, and says it monitors river water levels daily to spot problems early.
What the guarantee offers
If an itinerary changes before departure, travelers choose one of three options:
- Keep the revised itinerary and receive a goodwill gesture, such as a future travel credit.
- Reschedule the same vacation for the following year at the original price.
- Cancel for a full refund, processed within seven days.
Riviera says it will cancel a departure outright if disruption means it cannot deliver the expected experience. Travelers get updates 14 and 7 days before departure, and personal contact no later than 72 hours before departure if changes are expected. The company checks water levels at 52 river gauges every day. North America president Stuart Milan said advisors “put their trust in us” each time they recommend the brand.
Not yet published: eligibility rules, what counts as a “significant” change, the value of the goodwill gesture and any exclusions — all TBA.
What it means for airline travelers
- Watch for the 14-day and 7-day updates before you commit to flights; the 72-hour personal contact gives you time to switch flights if a sailing is disrupted.
- If you choose the full refund, remember your flights are separate — non-revenue and standby travel is easiest to cancel, but paid tickets may not be refundable.
- Ask your agent for the full terms before relying on the guarantee.
