October 25, 2026 — A group of JetBlue’s senior creditors has hired restructuring advisers. The airline’s stock and its loyalty-backed bonds have fallen sharply, and JetBlue reports third-quarter results this week.
What happened
The Wall Street Journal reported on October 23 that a group of senior JetBlue creditors is working with restructuring adviser PJT Partners. TheStreet reports the group has also hired the law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, which represented secured bondholders in Spirit Airlines’ first Chapter 11 case. Reports say the creditors acted because JetBlue is burning cash and fuel prices are high.
JetBlue has about $2 billion in senior notes due 2031, backed by its TrueBlue loyalty program and its co-branded credit card revenue. Those notes traded as low as 42 cents on the dollar on October 22. Earlier in October they were near 80 cents. JetBlue shares closed Friday, October 23, at about $2.62–$2.63, which puts the company’s market value under $1 billion.

What JetBlue says
JetBlue said it remains confident in its JetForward strategy and its progress toward sustained profitability. It has not commented on the creditors hiring advisers. In April, CEO Joanna Geraghty told employees the airline was not considering bankruptcy in 2026, according to Reuters. JetBlue has not announced any filing, and none of the reports say a filing date has been set (TBA). United CEO Scott Kirby, asked about JetBlue, said he had “nothing new to add on that.”
What it means for non-revs
- Nothing changes today. JetBlue is flying its normal schedule. No change to employee or pass travel has been announced.
- Watch the Tuesday, October 27 earnings call. Listen for news on liquidity, fleet, capacity cuts or a restructuring. Schedule cuts would mean fewer seats for standby travelers.
- Have a backup. If you are planning holiday trips on JetBlue via ZED or interline agreements, keep another carrier in mind and recheck your plans after the earnings call.
- Points and TrueBlue. Your TrueBlue points and status are still valid. The creditors are worried because the loyalty program secures their bonds. No change to the program has been announced.
- For JetBlue crewmembers: Follow official company and union channels, not social media rumors. The company’s only public statement so far is the confidence statement above.
