October 27, 2026 — Marriott International’s EDITION brand has opened its first hotel in Africa. The Cape Town EDITION sits on Quay 7 at the V&A Waterfront, looking across the water to Table Mountain.
What is happening
Marriott announced on October 27 that the 142-room Cape Town EDITION is now open. The hotel faces Table Mountain and overlooks the Waterfront’s new superyacht marina. The announcement did not give an exact opening day. Marriott first said in December 2025 that the hotel would open in 2026.
The building was designed by Neri&Hu with Cape Town architects. It uses more than six million hand-laid bricks and is built around a round central atrium called The Drum, with a spiral staircase up to an outdoor viewing platform. Marriott’s release calls the hotel “a gathering place poised to become a social nexus.”

What it means for airline travelers
- Getting there: Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is the city’s gateway. The announcement does not give a transfer time to the Waterfront. Check current nonstop and one-stop options to CPT before you plan around a particular flight.
- It’s brand new: Expect the usual early-days adjustments in service and some facilities still settling in. If your dates are flexible, a stay a few weeks out may be smoother.
- Booking: Reservations are open through Marriott’s website. No rates were published.
- Rates: The announcement did not mention any travel-industry or airline-employee rate. Check the Marriott programs you normally use.
