DALLAS-FORT WORTH, Nov. 6, 2026 — American Airlines has added a free standby option to the self-service rebooking tool that disrupted customers use, and it has opened its à la carte Flagship Dining rooms to all Flagship Business passengers on qualifying flights.

Standby added to Dynamic Rebooking

  • Customers whose trips are disrupted can now use Dynamic Rebooking on aa.com or in the app to list for an earlier nonstop flight. They keep their newly confirmed seat while they wait.
  • The tool shows up to three earlier options. A customer can be on one standby list at a time.
  • The confirmed seat is released only if the customer clears standby.
  • An internal memo tells agents: “Do not cancel the customer’s confirmed flight because the customer joined standby.”
  • Timing: live the week of Nov. 5, after it was previewed in the Oct. 26 iPhone app release notes.
  • United launched a broader version of this feature in September 2026.

Flagship Dining opens to business class

  • Flagship First Dining was renamed Flagship Dining, effective Sept. 15, 2026.
  • It is now open, on a space-available basis, to all Flagship Business passengers on qualifying long-haul international, transcontinental and Hawaii flights.
  • Elite members and partner-airline premium passengers are not included. First class and Concierge Key customers get no priority.

MIA Near gate D30
JFK No location planned

What it means for non-revs

  • Bigger revenue standby lists on bad days. During irregular operations, more paying customers can now put themselves on the list for earlier nonstops from their phones, and they will rank above pass riders. Expect to slide further down the list when weather or delays hit.
  • Late seat releases. A customer who clears standby gives up their confirmed seat on the later flight. That can open seats close to departure on later departures, so keep an eye on the later flight’s list too.
  • Plan your backups. On IROPS days, list on more than one option and check loads often. Earlier nonstops will be the most contested.
  • Flagship Dining. The reports do not say whether pass riders seated in Flagship Business qualify. Check your pass policy before you count on access.
