October 9, 2026 — Hurricane Isaias is due on the western Florida Panhandle this evening with 120 mph winds. Pensacola and Destin-Fort Walton Beach airports are closed, five airlines have waivers out, and no cruise line had confirmed a Gulf itinerary change as of Friday morning.

The National Hurricane Center’s 10 a.m. CDT advisory put Isaias at 27.7°N, 87.3°W, moving north-northeast at 16 mph. A Hurricane Warning runs from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to the Bay/Gulf County line in Florida. New Orleans sits inside the Tropical Storm Warning to the west.

Airports and seaports

  • Destin-Fort Walton Beach (VPS): suspended operations Thursday night and is closed until further notice.
  • Pensacola (PNS): closed Friday morning. FlightAware showed 35 Saturday cancellations, about a third of the schedule, TravelPulse reports.
  • Mobile (MOB), Gulfport-Biloxi (GPT) and New Orleans (MSY): disruption is likely, Travel Market Report says. No closures were reported.
  • Port of Mobile: vessel operations at public berths stopped at noon Thursday. No cruise ship sails from Mobile until Carnival Spirit starts its season there on October 24.
  • Galveston, New Orleans and Tampa cruise terminals: open in Carnival’s Thursday update, which warned that could change.

Airline waivers

Airline Airports covered Travel dates
American MSY, PNS, VPS, GPT, MOB October 9–11; rebook for October 7–14
United MSY, PNS, GPT, MOB October 9–10
Delta PNS, VPS, GPT, MOB (not MSY) October 9–10; rebook by October 13
JetBlue MSY October 9–10; rebook through October 14
Southwest VPS, MSY, ECP, PNS Through October 10; rebook or stand by within 14 days

The table follows Travel Market Report. TravelPulse’s list differs slightly: it adds Tampa and Panama City to American’s waiver and several inland Alabama and Georgia airports to Delta’s. Check your own airline’s advisory before you act.

Cruise lines

  • Carnival Cruise Line: six Gulf ships and 12 sailings are on a weather alert. No schedule changes or cancellations as of Friday morning.
  • Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises: minimal disruption expected for Florida west coast departures on Radiance of the Seas, Enchantment of the Seas and Celebrity Summit. Sailings near the northern Gulf are under review.
  • Margaritaville at Sea: monitoring Islander’s weekend departure from Tampa. No route change announced.

Travel Market Report expects changes after landfall. Captains may adjust speed or reorder port calls.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Standby will be tight. Waivers push rebooked revenue passengers onto flights through October 14. Expect full loads into New Orleans, Mobile, Gulfport and the Panhandle for several days.
  • Sailing from New Orleans this weekend: MSY is under four of the five waivers. If you are not already in the city, list on the earliest flights and have a paid backup.
  • Sailing from Galveston or Tampa: Houston (IAH, HOU) and Tampa (TPA) are outside the warning area. The risk is a late ship, so do not book a tight flight home.
  • Returning cruisers: a delayed arrival breaks same-day flights first. Keep your listing flexible and watch for a text from the line.
  • Refunds: no sailing has been cancelled, so no refund terms have been published. Details: TBA if that changes.
  • Interline rates: none of the reports mention travel-industry rates or eligibility.
