MANZANILLO, Mexico, October 12, 2026 — Update to our October 11 story. Manzanillo’s Playa de Oro International Airport (ZLO) was scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, October 12, after two days closed for Hurricane Simon. The airport operator says that time depends on the weather. We could not confirm on Monday whether flights had restarted.

What changed since Sunday

  • New reopening target: on Sunday morning Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) set a reopening time of 2 p.m. Sunday, El Informador reported. By Sunday night it had moved the target to 8 a.m. Monday, October 12, based on revised notices to pilots, Proceso reports.
  • Sunday was a total loss: every commercial flight scheduled for Sunday, October 11, was cancelled, as were flights after 5 p.m. on Saturday, according to El Informador.
  • Whether ZLO reopened on time: TBA. GAP says changes will be announced through official channels.
  • Damage: no damage report has been published. GAP says staff will inspect the airport once conditions allow.

The storm

  • At 6 p.m. CST Sunday the National Hurricane Center (NHC) placed Simon about 110 miles west-northwest of Manzanillo, with 125 mph winds, moving northwest at about 5 mph. The storm is moving away from Manzanillo.
  • The NHC expects Simon to move farther offshore on Monday and Tuesday and then turn back toward the coast on Wednesday, October 14.

Airline waivers

  • Aeroméxico has a waiver for flights on October 9–11 to, from or through Manzanillo, Puerto Vallarta and Colima, with changes allowed by October 14, UnoTV reports.
  • Check your own airline’s alert page for waivers covering October 12.

What it means for non-revs

  • Confirm the flight is operating before you go to the airport. The reopening time has already moved twice.
  • Expect full flights out. Two days of cancelled flights will take time to clear. Standby seats will be scarce early this week.
  • Keep an eye on Wednesday. The NHC expects Simon to turn back toward the coast mid-week.
  • Carry on your bags. With schedules being rebuilt, misconnects and delayed bags are more likely.
