October 23, 2026 — Oceanwide Expeditions has published its first environmental, social and governance (ESG) report. The report confirms plans for two new hybrid expedition ships that will use sail power, due in 2029.
What happened
In March 2026 the company signed a letter of intent for two next-generation eco-sail expedition ships. They are planned to join the fleet in 2029 with hybrid technology and energy storage, and the company says it will keep sailing small ships.
- Current fleet: fuel-saving itinerary planning, engine optimization, hull maintenance and waste-heat recovery
- Onboard hotel operations: phasing out single-use plastics, cutting food and energy waste, greener cleaning products
- More local suppliers and lower supply-chain emissions
- A long-term restoration project on more than 1,600 hectares of degraded Brazilian Amazon rainforest bought in 2023, funded entirely by guest contributions
CEO Rémi Bouysset said the report gives the company “a proper foundation to measure its progress” and admitted there is room for improvement. Exact delivery dates and names for the new ships are TBA.
What it means for airline travelers
- The new ships are years away, so there is no change to current sailings.
- Oceanwide’s polar trips begin in remote gateway cities. Book flights with a buffer day before embarkation.
- The report does not mention any travel-industry or interline rates.
