October 6, 2026 — RIU Hotels & Resorts has reopened Hotel Riu Touareg on Boa Vista, Cape Verde, after renovating every room and public area. The 1,181-room resort is now aimed almost entirely at families.

RIU announced the reopening on October 5. It did not publish the exact reopening date, the length of the closure or the cost, so those are TBA. The five-star resort first opened in 2011 on the beach in the south of the island and runs on RIU’s 24-hour all-inclusive plan.

Before the work, the resort was split into family and adults-only sections. That split is gone. One quiet pool is still reserved for guests 18 and over.

What changed

  • Rooms: all 1,181 have new furniture, finishes, bathrooms, entrance doors, exterior woodwork and air conditioning.
  • Six restaurants: Morabeza (main buffet, with a larger air-conditioned room), Kabuki (Asian, moved to a bigger space), Kulinarium, Da Marcello (Italian), Bereber (a new steakhouse) and American Country (a new sports bar and restaurant).
  • Also new: Candy, an ice cream parlor and café, and two Pepe’s Food grill stations by the pools.
  • Nine bars, including the Atlas lobby bar, Sabura plaza bar and Brisa swim-up bar.
  • Pools: the three main pools were rebuilt with bigger sun terraces.
  • Other areas: a larger gym, a renovated spa and children’s playground, and one larger central shop.

What it means for airline travelers

  • Adults looking for quiet should think twice. The adults-only section is gone. If you booked that side before the renovation, ask RIU how your reservation is being handled.
  • Good news for families. The resort now has more restaurants, rebuilt pools and updated kids’ programs.
  • Getting there: Boa Vista Airport is about 30 minutes away by road. Check your own carrier’s schedule for Cape Verde service before planning a standby trip; the sources we read did not list airlines.
  • No renovation disruption now. The work is finished, so expect a fully open resort.
  • Industry rates: RIU did not publish an airline-employee rate for this hotel.
